Faruk Pekbeken (BEng, CEng, MICE)

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Faruk has over 30 years experience in the water engineering and infrastructure sectors, including project management, site supervision and engineering design on major infrastructure projects throughout the UK and overseas. Faruk’s emphasis is on strategic flood risk assessments, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), environmental enhancement, water/wastewater engineering and sustainable development. He has worked for large consulting engineering companies such as Mouchel, Pell Frischmann and Hyder (Arcadis) on projects in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia. Design projects involved the Airbus A380 wing factory near Chester and Mercedes Benz World in Surrey.

Faruk is currently Technical Director of Floodline Consulting managing multiple projects for private and public sector clients, planning and delivering sustainable and flood resilient infrastructure projects. He is also an Expert Witness on flooding and drainage matters undertaking dispute resolution and advising local authorities, solicitors and re-insurers on cases relating to planning, flood damage and drainage failures. He is a specialist in analysing technical issues associated with land at risk of flooding and has produced stage 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment reports for the City of London Corporation and seven North London Borough Councils to guide their planning process.

Faruk is one of the founding members of the Pekbeken Ali Foundation, a charity that funds the design and construction of flood-resilient schools, colleges and homes for destitute people in flood-prone regions such as Bangladesh. He also regularly attend round table meetings involving leaders from water, planning, engineering and environmental sectors and is a STEM ambassador for the ICE.
